Cario Young Steps into His Calling with Debut Album New Day

NEW YORK, N.Y. – For years, Cario Young found fulfillment behind the scenes, producing music and helping other artists bring their visions to life. Stepping into the spotlight was never the objective. Yet with the release of his debut album, New Day, the Canadian-based Jamaican gospel recording artist is embracing what he believes is a higher calling; one that places his own voice at the forefront of Kingdom music.

For Young, New Day is more a declaration of purpose than merely the title of a song. It means a new beginning for me. It is a new wave, a new direction, a new approach,” he said. “Musically, it is me moving from behind a computer desk to embrace my calling as a recording artist.”

That transition, however, was not born out of comfort. It emerged during one of the most difficult seasons of his life.

Young admits that a series of painful experiences involving friends, family and people he trusted left him questioning everything.

“I felt so betrayed by the people around me and I almost walked away from it all,” he recalled.

Instead of allowing disappointment to silence his creativity, Young allowed it to shape it. He began experimenting with reggae music, and unexpectedly it resonated with listeners, creating what he describes as “a demand for more authentic reggae.”  He embraced the moment and used it to lay the foundation for what would become New Day.

The result is an album that does not shy away from life’s complexities. Throughout the project, Young explores themes of betrayal, perseverance, hope and spiritual renewal, while consistently pointing listeners back to the truth of Christ.

“My approach is always that life is real,” he explained. “Whether we are Christians or not, we face life on a real level.”

This philosophy has become central to his songwriting. Without presenting faith as an escape from life’s struggles, Young is using gospel music to engage those realities honestly while remaining firmly rooted in Scripture.

“I believe it is our duty to make the Gospel relatable,” he said. “We have to find ways to fulfill our mandate of winning souls without compromising on the biblical truths.”

Helping translate that vision into sound was veteran Jamaican music producer Canute, whose years of experience in the industry gave him an immediate appreciation for what Young was building.

“What stood out most was that Cario wasn’t just making music; he was carrying a message,” Canute said.

Recognizing that from the outset shaped his entire approach to producing the album.

“I knew my role wasn’t just to produce songs, but to help build a sound that matched the weight of what he wanted to say,” he explained.

That philosophy is evident throughout the Album. Instead of relying on production to dominate the listening experience, Canute intentionally crafted arrangements that allow Young’s message to remain the focal point.

“I wanted a sound that carried the weight of what Cario was saying,” he said. “Every musical moment pointed back to the message instead of competing with it.”

For Canute, whose production career has spanned years within Jamaica’s music industry, that commitment to purpose is what ultimately distinguishes New Day.

“It wasn’t created to chase trends,” he said. “It was created to serve people.”

That shared commitment between artist and producer gives New Day its identity. While reggae provides the musical foundation, the album’s heartbeat lies in its message, one that acknowledges life’s disappointments without losing sight of God’s promises.

Asked what he hopes listeners will remember after hearing the album from beginning to end, Young’s answer was neither elaborate nor complicated.

“God will sustain you,” he said. “He made it a promise that He will take care of us if we allow Him to.”

It is a fitting conclusion to a project that was born from hardship but anchored in hope. With New Day, Cario Young introduces himself not simply as a recording artist, but as a storyteller committed to creating music that reflects real life while pointing listeners toward an unchanging Christ. For an artist who spent years helping others find their voice, this debut marks the beginning of his own journey to becoming that which the Lord has ordained him to be.
