Jamaican gospel singer Derrick Scott latest single reaffirms faith and honours a promise made to his late wife

For many gospel artists who transitioned from secular music, remaining steadfast in their faith can present ongoing challenges. Jamaican gospel singer Derrick Scott understands those struggles firsthand, having begun his musical journey as a dancehall deejay before dedicating his life to Christ more than two decades ago.

His latest single, “Deliver Me”, released on June 19 through his independent label, DScott Music, is a honest declaration of perseverance, focusing on resisting temptation and remaining faithful to God’s Word despite life’s trials.

“I was a deejay before I started singing, and sometimes when I look around at Beenie Man and (Lieutenant) Stitchie, I laugh. Me and him (Stitchie) used to learn to deejay around the same time on a sound system in Spanish Town named City Life. And mi sey, ‘how them man a mek money an’ me broke,’ but mi still hold the faith,”Scott shared. “That was one of my biggest temptations. But the fact that I am not drawn into the world by that shows I am withstanding temptation.”

Since embracing Christianity over 20 years ago, Scott has released four gospel albums along with numerous singles. “Deliver Me” not only reaffirms his unwavering commitment to his faith but also honors a promise he made to his late wife, Nadine, to remain faithful to God regardless of the obstacles he might face.

Nadine, whom Scott was married to for four years, passed away in 2022. “After losing her, I was going through a rough time, but my faith in God never wavered,” he said.

A native of Linstead in St. Catherine, Jamaica, Scott comes from a community with a rich musical heritage. The rural market town has produced several celebrated reggae artists, including Phyllis Dillon, Culture, and Scott‘s older brother, Freddie McKay.

Now available on all major streaming platforms, “Deliver Me” continues Derrick Scott‘s message of faith and perseverance.
