NEW YORK, N.Y. – For years, Cario Young found fulfillment behind the scenes, producing music and helping other artists bring their visions to life. Stepping into the spotlight was never the objective. Yet with the release of his debut album, New Day, the Canadian-based Jamaican gospel recording artist is embracing what he believes is a higher calling; one that places his own voice at the forefront of Kingdom music.

For Young, New Day is more a declaration of purpose than merely the title of a song. It means a new beginning for me. It is a new wave, a new direction, a new approach,” he said. “Musically, it is me moving from behind a computer desk to embrace my calling as a recording artist.”

That transition, however, was not born out of comfort. It emerged during one of the most difficult seasons of his life.

Young admits that a series of painful experiences involving friends, family and people he trusted left him questioning everything.

“I felt so betrayed by the people around me and I almost walked away from it all,” he recalled.

Instead of allowing disappointment to silence his creativity, Young allowed it to shape it. He began experimenting with reggae music, and unexpectedly it resonated with listeners, creating what he describes as “a demand for more authentic reggae.”  He embraced the moment and used it to lay the foundation for what would become New Day.

The result is an album that does not shy away from life’s complexities. Throughout the project, Young explores themes of betrayal, perseverance, hope and spiritual renewal, while consistently pointing listeners back to the truth of Christ.

“My approach is always that life is real,” he explained. “Whether we are Christians or not, we face life on a real level.”

This philosophy has become central to his songwriting. Without presenting faith as an escape from life’s struggles, Young is using gospel music to engage those realities honestly while remaining firmly rooted in Scripture.

“I believe it is our duty to make the Gospel relatable,” he said. “We have to find ways to fulfill our mandate of winning souls without compromising on the biblical truths.”

Helping translate that vision into sound was veteran Jamaican music producer Canute, whose years of experience in the industry gave him an immediate appreciation for what Young was building.

“What stood out most was that Cario wasn’t just making music; he was carrying a message,” Canute said.

Recognizing that from the outset shaped his entire approach to producing the album.

“I knew my role wasn’t just to produce songs, but to help build a sound that matched the weight of what he wanted to say,” he explained.

That philosophy is evident throughout the Album. Instead of relying on production to dominate the listening experience, Canute intentionally crafted arrangements that allow Young’s message to remain the focal point.

“I wanted a sound that carried the weight of what Cario was saying,” he said. “Every musical moment pointed back to the message instead of competing with it.”

For Canute, whose production career has spanned years within Jamaica’s music industry, that commitment to purpose is what ultimately distinguishes New Day.

“It wasn’t created to chase trends,” he said. “It was created to serve people.”

That shared commitment between artist and producer gives New Day its identity. While reggae provides the musical foundation, the album’s heartbeat lies in its message, one that acknowledges life’s disappointments without losing sight of God’s promises.

Asked what he hopes listeners will remember after hearing the album from beginning to end, Young’s answer was neither elaborate nor complicated.

“God will sustain you,” he said. “He made it a promise that He will take care of us if we allow Him to.”

It is a fitting conclusion to a project that was born from hardship but anchored in hope. With New Day, Cario Young introduces himself not simply as a recording artist, but as a storyteller committed to creating music that reflects real life while pointing listeners toward an unchanging Christ. For an artist who spent years helping others find their voice, this debut marks the beginning of his own journey to becoming that which the Lord has ordained him to be. More than a voice or simply another artist, Cario Young has emerged as a storyteller whose music resonates across the full spectrum of the human experience, reminding listeners that no matter the season, every new day begins with Christ.

For many gospel artists who transitioned from secular music, remaining steadfast in their faith can present ongoing challenges. Jamaican gospel singer Derrick Scott understands those struggles firsthand, having begun his musical journey as a dancehall deejay before dedicating his life to Christ more than two decades ago.

His latest single, “Deliver Me”, released on June 19 through his independent label, DScott Music, is a honest declaration of perseverance, focusing on resisting temptation and remaining faithful to God’s Word despite life’s trials.

“I was a deejay before I started singing, and sometimes when I look around at Beenie Man and (Lieutenant) Stitchie, I laugh. Me and him (Stitchie) used to learn to deejay around the same time on a sound system in Spanish Town named City Life. And mi sey, ‘how them man a mek money an’ me broke,’ but mi still hold the faith,”Scott shared. “That was one of my biggest temptations. But the fact that I am not drawn into the world by that shows I am withstanding temptation.”

Since embracing Christianity over 20 years ago, Scott has released four gospel albums along with numerous singles. “Deliver Me” not only reaffirms his unwavering commitment to his faith but also honors a promise he made to his late wife, Nadine, to remain faithful to God regardless of the obstacles he might face.

Nadine, whom Scott was married to for four years, passed away in 2022. “After losing her, I was going through a rough time, but my faith in God never wavered,” he said.

A native of Linstead in St. Catherine, Jamaica, Scott comes from a community with a rich musical heritage. The rural market town has produced several celebrated reggae artists, including Phyllis Dillon, Culture, and Scott‘s older brother, Freddie McKay.

Now available on all major streaming platforms, “Deliver Me” continues Derrick Scott‘s message of faith and perseverance.

I have been singing since I was 13. I started off singing lovers rock in school corridors at lunchtime me and my friend putting on small concerts.

I was very shy and insecure and experiencing a lot at home so singing was my outlet and I believed I was ugly because I was constantly told I was ugly at home. I always grew believing there was nothing good about me but my voice.

After leaving school I became a teenage mom at 17 and by the age of 21 I had 3 children. Came to the Lord by the age of 23 but still the same insecurities then and way up to my 40s.

In 2006 I had a thyroidectomy because I had cancer on my thyroid. I couldn’t sing for over 2 years and as far as I was concerned this took away the one thing I thought I was good at…Singing.

When my voice came back by 2007 they operated again saying the cancer had came back and so my parathyroid was removed. Since then I felt I lost my voice forever although I would lead worship and sing solo when asked I became so insecure about my voice as I believed it had changed.

During lockdown I began to feel down and depressed about a lot of things and being shut in made it worse. I lived in the Midlands at the time and decided I needed to go back to my hometown for a while to be with my older children as it was just myself and my younger daughter and already feeling lonely and isolated I drove back to Manchester.

It was then that I felt I need to find Jackie and the only way I felt I could do that was to sing and record in my sons studio at his home. I needed to feel like that 13 year old girl again where I could sing.

I had a backing track that a friend had given me and I’d already loved the song. This song reminded me of how God had kept me throughout every season of my life…my childhood…my teenage years as a mom…my 20s when I got married still not believing I was good enough…my divorce…my cancer…and so much more…

This song reminded me that I was somebody and that God sees me as that. I am fearfully and wonderfully made.

I recorded the song with my little croaky voice but I recorded it just for myself and for no one else to hear. My son shared it with someone who owned a radio station and it was played on another local radio station and there during lockdown people were brought to tears. People were healed…encouraged…blessed calling me texting me …it became the anthem to keep them going.

I on the other hand had always cringed at the sound of my voice hearing the croaks etc.

But I realised that God took this song to remind people that He is with them no matter what they have been through…going through and about to go through.  He is with us throughout every season of our lives.

This is a snippet of my testimony…there’s so much more…I hope more people will be blessed by this song.

Award-winning Christian Reggae artist Kingsley Wray released his latest single, Miracle Worker, in early May, continuing his ministry of spreading God’s Word through music in 2026.

Filled with gratitude and faith, Miracle Worker declares again and again that God is still working miracles today. From the miracles recorded throughout the Bible to the everyday blessings of life itself, the song reminds listeners to remain thankful in all circumstances, echoing the message of 1 Thessalonians 5:18. As Kingsley reflects in the song, Jesus turned water into wine, made the mute speak, and gave sight to the blind — and He is still moving powerfully in our lives today.

Kingsley began writing Miracle Worker over a year ago and felt inspired to complete it recently after once again witnessing God’s hand at work in his life. The track is voiced on a rhythm by Kron Production, with vocals expertly mixed and mastered by talented South London producer Jaja Wray of Razz Beats.

The single is now available, download and stream Miracle Worker.

Through his music ministry, Kingsley Wray continues to faithfully deliver God’s Word while inspiring faith, perseverance, intentionality, and victory.

On the 5th of July, UK Gospel group Darren Evans-Henry & Essence released their new single ‘Your Grace Is Sufficient’, it’s their first reggae single as a group, though reggae is a firm favourite and a regular feature at their live concerts. Backed by their resident band, this single has an authentic smooth reggae production and lyrics that will encourage and strengthen your faith in God.

Darren says “Your Grace Is Sufficient is a fresh and vibrant song with a cool reggae vibe. The song carries an uplifting message to remind people of God’s sufficient constant love and grace.”

Inspiration behind the song

“The song was written upon a reflective moment. The realisation of God’s grace constantly surrounding His people is amazing. God is constant and His love never changes, it is undeserved and unreserved for anyone who will accept it. God’s grace keeps us in the lowest of times when we thought we wouldn’t make it. So, I penciled this song to encapsulate this. Jesus is the light of the world, and He offers mankind pardon from sin. I wanted to write a song that carriers the Gospel message. The song is written to God and sung to God as a love letter, but bearing in mind all His children should hear/know about the love and grace of God”. – Darren Evans-Henry, Essence founder

“Darren Evans-Henry is man of God who clearly loves the Lord, and this is evident in his ministry through song, word and deed. A man who’s about his father’s business seeking to win the lost. ‘His grace is sufficient’ is such a wonderful uplifting song that reminds us that God’s gift of grace gives us the strength to endure the vicissitudes of life. May this track be a blessing to the masses that will hear it.” – Award Winning Gospel Minister Joshua Kesler

“Nice uplifting sweet gospel reggae vibes sure to make you move”! – Gospel creative and Preacher Isaiah-Raymond Dyer
